Treatment in hospital
You will have an ultrasound scan of your breast to check for an abscess.
The pus may be drained from an abscess with both:
• A needle – this could need to be performed a few times, and you can have to go back to hospital on every occasion
• A small cut in your skin
Your skin could be numbed before this is performed. You can usually go home the same day and may be given antibiotics to take at home.
The abscess ought to heal completely in a few days or perhaps weeks.
Reasons of breast abscesses
A breast abscess can form if you have a breast infection (referred to as mastitis) and it is not treated quickly.
Mastitis most often impacts breastfeeding girls. it may also show up in ladies who are not breastfeeding, but this is less common.
Getting treatment for mastitis as soon as possible can help lessen the threat of having an abscess.
